Denmark Tax Incentives for Film Production

Denmark intends to establish a film and TV production rebate in 2026. The plan is to attract international productions by giving a financial rebate for qualified expenses. Though the exact details are still being finalized, Denmark has earmarked $17.5 million annually to underpin the scheme-€17 million, 125 million krone. But the rebate percentage of the scheme, the per-project cap, and the types of production eligible have not been disclosed, leaving many questions for potential filmmakers.

The scheme in Denmark, though forthcoming, pledges to make it a competitive filming destination; navigating this system and often-rigorous permit processes, though, can be quite tricky. Productions will have to wait until 2026 to receive those incentives, too, thereby making other locations more favorable in the meantime.

That brings us to Thailand, a destination offering a mature and highly advantageous tax rebate system for filmmakers today.

Thailand Film Tax Rebate

Thailand’s Incentive Measures offer an immediate and strong rebate structure, catering for a wide variety of different production needs. Filmmakers can receive the base 15% rebate on qualified expenditures, with extra bonuses to take the rebate as high as 20%, as follows:

  • 5% for promoting Thai tourism and positively reflecting the country.
  • 3% for employing key Thai personnel.
  • 3% for physical production in designated tourism locations.
  • 2% for allocating at least 15% of eligible expenses to post-production in Thailand.
  • 5% for projects spending more than $2.9 million (THB 100 million) locally, provided.

Thailand has a tax rebate program especially for feature films, TV dramas, documentaries, and other productions. Thailand caps the per-project amount to $4.4 million (THB 150 million) to ensure significant savings for filmmakers. The application process is quite easy, provided the production spends over $1.5 million (THB 50 million) on Thai services and businesses and hires a local coordinator.

n exchange, by opting for Thailand, filmmakers secure not only financial benefits but also amazing locations, experienced crews, and high-quality equipment.

Meandering through the heart is the famed Chao Phraya River, perfect for capturing heartfelt and romantic scenes along the river boasting a rich backdrop showcasing Thailand’s icon temples and pagodas.

Islands

With over a thousand islands dotting Thailand’s rolling coastline and the Andaman Sea, each island has charm, mystery, and beauty. Towering, jagged cliffs remain untouched by human hands and serve as a home to the wild animals hiding within the rock crevasses or underwater schisms.

Beaches

Thailand’s sun-kissed beaches are second to none. Layered with soft, white, silky sand, crystal clear waters, and lush terrain, Thailand’s southern beaches serve as the ideal filming location for dramas, romantic comedies, and action and adventure films.
