As the premiere approaches, we look closer at the standout locations chosen by director Noah Hawley to bring this ambitious project to life.

Let’s take a look at the locations filmed in Alien: Earth.

1. Bangkok

The Studio Park was used for filming select interior scenes and large set pieces. The facility spans five buildings and features five purpose-built soundstages suitable for all types of production. It offers advanced equipment, an experienced crew, workshops, backlots, water tanks, and traditional Thai houses. Although the specific studio used for Alien: Earth wasn’t revealed, the location is designed to deliver fully immersive backdrops.

Key locations include Phang Nga Bay, James Bond Island, Koh Panyee, and Ao Phang Nga National Park. The area is easily accessible and visually unique, ideal for capturing unforgettable scenes.

Why Film in Thailand?

Thailand’s diverse landscapes across its 76 provinces continue to attract international filmmakers. Director Noah Hawley chose Thailand for its competitive tax rebates and filming incentives. Tourism and Sports Minister Sermsak Pongpanich visited the set, noting that revenue from foreign film productions is expected to reach a record high this year.

Alien: Earth began filming on July 19, 2023, and spanned 122 shooting days across multiple locations. The production spent over 3 billion Baht, employing more than 1,600 local crews, renting studios and equipment, and managing extensive logistics. It is the highest-budget foreign production ever filmed in Thailand. The project booked more than 20 hotels in Bangkok to accommodate both international and local crews, boosting tourism and supporting the local economy.

“The ministry will continue to provide support to foreign filmmakers who select Thailand as a shooting location in order to generate revenue for the country’s film and hospitality industries and other related businesses,” the minister said.

“The ministry aims to promote Thailand as an ideal location for international filmmakers and in turn encourage people to come to Thailand and experience the locations of films they like.”

The Ministry of Tourism and Sports has set a clear target of earning more than 7.5 billion baht from foreign crew productions this year.
