Jurassic World: Rebirth – Thailand Filming Locations

Jurassic World: Rebirth filmed at several national parks in Thailand, taking advantage of the region's lush forests and idyllic coastlines. The film received a 20% cash rebate under Thailand's film incentive program.

Coming soon to theaters near you, Jurassic World: Rebirth, starring Scarlett Johansson, marks the seventh installment in the franchise. Locations played a key role in the film, serving as striking backdrops that concealed mysterious dinosaurs and evoked a sense of danger and suspense for the cast. Thailand provides diverse filming locations, including thick jungles, mountain ranges, pristine coastlines, beaches, cities, and more. The film crew scouted national parks and islands in and around Krabi and Phang Nga to find idyllic settings for the thrilling adventure.

Let’s dive into the locations shot in Jurassic World: Rebirth.

Filming Locations

Khao Phanom Bencha National Park

The government-owned national park was scouted and used to film Jurassic World: Rebirth in Krabi. Situated away from bustling crowds, the well-maintained park features dense forests, winding trails, and towering waterfalls that visitors can trek to. Before the hike, you can grab tasty grub at the local restaurant. The hike takes approximately three hours, presenting visitors a stunning, 360-degree view of the park while imagining dinosaurs roaming under the canopy.

Additionally, you can trek to Huai To Waterfall, a cascading 3-tiered waterfall, too. Stunning, this national park is a must-visit for those adventurers and, of course, Jurassic Park fans.

Hat Chao Mai National Park

The beach stretches for several kilometers to the north and is lined with pine forests along the white sandy shore at Chao Mai National Park on Koh Kradan, located in Trang province, which served as a filming site of a dinosaur nesting ground, thanks to the environment and striking limestone rock formations dotted with greenery. Named as one of Thailand’s most beautiful islands in 2023, the beach lies about 10 kilometers west of the country’s southern mainland.

Ao Phang Nga National Park

Ao Phang Nga National Park is known for several must-visit attractions: Phang Nga Bay, Koh Khai Nai, Koh Yao Yai, Koh Khai Nok Island, and Koh Panak Cave. Known for its limestone cliffs and untouched vegetation, and calm waters, the film crew chose the park for the setting of an intensive, high-stakes chase scene with a terrifying dinosaur.

One of the most famous films shot in the area is The Man with the Golden Gun, featuring iconic limestone karsts rising between two islands. When it comes to film production in Thailand, the location serves as a must-visit destination for any type of film or TV series production.

Khao Tapu

One of South Thailand’s iconic limestone column, Khao Tapu, located in the Kalai District of Phang Nga Bay, draws in tourists worldwide to this unique rock formation. Its name, which translates to, “nail mountain,” comes from the resemblance of a nail. The site gained international fame from the film The Man with the Golden Gun.

Thailand features ample filming locations for all types of production; with incredible Thai filming locations regionwide, foreign film crews choose the country as their ideal filming destination.

Klong Root (Clear Water Canal)

Located 18 kilometers from Krabi Town, Klong Root or Clear Water Canal boasts stunning clear waters, dense mangroves, and natural scenery, making the area a preferred hotspot for tourists and film production crews. While no dinosaurs reside here, tourists flock to the river and meandering canal system to enjoy a relaxing kayaking experience lasting an hour to two hours.

Venturing deeper into the river system reveals several stop-off points lined with shops and activity areas. Visitors can grab food and refreshments before paddling back.

Bangkok, Chiang Mai, and Phuket

Logistics and film work were done in Bangkok, Phuket, and Chiang Mai. While it wasn’t disclosed what film production studios were used, it was implied that a hefty amount of behind-the-scenes work was done in the cities.

Why Choose Thailand?

Thailand offers many untouched, forested areas, making these locations ideal environments. For Jurassic World: Rebirth, the crew selected three national parks for filming: Sunset Beach and Kradan Island in Hat Chao Mai National Park, Trang Province; Huai To Waterfall in Khao Phanom Bencha National Park, Krabi Province; and Tapu Island, Two Brothers Island, and Naka Island in Ao Phang Nga National Park, Phang Nga Province. Aerial shots were also captured using drones. Filming took place from June 17 to 28 last year.

During last year’s shoot, hotels across Krabi Province reported increased bookings. Film stars stayed in five-star accommodations, while several independent hotels served as production headquarters. Ms. Kasmaporn believes the film can be promoted in tandem with Bangkok’s upcoming attraction, Jurassic World: The Experience, set to open later this year.

Udom Matsayawanigul, Director of the Thailand Film Office, confirmed that the production qualifies for a 20% cash rebate under Thailand’s film incentive program. This was the maximum rebate cap available until the end of 2024. In 2025, TFO introduced an increased rebate cap of up to 30%.
